This also comes from Burl Hammons. According to Gerry Milnes, the title of this tune refers to a winter solstice tradition involving a New Years parade and featuring costumed marchers banging pots and pans. With roots in the British ‘mumming’ tradition, mischief-making and begging for food were not uncommon. The tradition survives in Lewisburg, Greenbriar County, W.Va.
Great choice of music, expertly played and sung. Nicely produced. I hope to see The Onlies live, asap. This is an album I listen to over and over. Karamogo
This rendition of Virgil Anderson's "Jenny Hang the Kettle On" is wonderful. It perfectly grabs the simplistic beauty of Virgil's version, but has such clarity. Amazing album! Payton Scott
