From Kilby Snow. Our friend Amy Alvey showed us a clip of Kilby singing this song on the Vestapol DVD Shady Grove: Old Time Music from Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia. We unintentionally straightened it out but tried to keep close to Kilby’s feel. Ben ended up laying down a bass track using an old Univox hollow-body electric bass that he inherited from a late friend of his. The pickups were broken, so he pressed a bass drum mic against the body and, with some mixing wizardry, got it to sound glorious.
Great choice of music, expertly played and sung. Nicely produced. I hope to see The Onlies live, asap. This is an album I listen to over and over. Karamogo
This rendition of Virgil Anderson's "Jenny Hang the Kettle On" is wonderful. It perfectly grabs the simplistic beauty of Virgil's version, but has such clarity. Amazing album! Payton Scott
